The Cabinet in Downing Street has given their approval to build a third runway at Heathrow Airport. Expansion plans for the UK’s biggest airport flies in the face of efforts to tackle climate change.
Aviation is the most polluting form of transport and the industry’s environmental impact is growing rapidly. Being a climate leader means saying no to polluting projects like this.
Hundreds of homes, a primary school, community centres and a special needs centre in the path of the airport will be demolished. Extra flights will increase air and noise pollution for thousands more living nearby.
The UK Government’s proposal now needs to be approved by the Westminster Parliament. The Government has a minority of MPs and many Conservatives oppose this disastrous scheme. The votes of the 35 SNP MPs are likely to be crucial in the fInal decision.
That's why you need to ask Nicola Sturgeon and the SNP's Westminster leader Ian Blackford to tell SNP MPs to vote against these plans. The vote is likely to be within the next week so it’s vital we make a huge noise now.
Send them an email now to say that climate leaders should not support new runways.
