Let the people have their say on AI data centres

No one voted for AI data centres. Over 20 monster data centres have been proposed across Scotland, driven by big tech. These plans, which would have devastating local and national impacts, are being rushed through before people can have their say.

Wherever these huge, power-hungry data centres have been built, people have been made to pay. In Ireland, data centres now use a quarter of the entire country’s electricity and have increased household energy bills by an extra €360.  In USA, people’s health is harmed by the constant noise, the air pollution and disruption.

The data centre boom is happening so rapidly, the full scale of their impacts on people, nature and climate are not yet known.

All across Scotland, people are standing strong against data centres, and our collective pressure is working. The Scottish Government have been forced to act, but they need to do more. We need to keep the pressure on.

So far, people have been shut out of these decisions but now we’re demanding our say. Decisions on AI data centres should be led by the people, not by big tech profits. We must have a say on how our energy, our land and our resources are going to be used.

We need a national conversation about the need for AI data centres and their impacts.

Email the First Minister now to demand the people have our say on AI data centres before any decisions to build them are made.
