The global boom in huge AI data centres is threatening clean water, nature and democracy. The minerals and metals required are fuelling a growth in destructive mining. The huge amount of energy required to run them is being used to justify more fossil fuel use, while thousands die from heatwaves and wildfires.
Yet again, we are seeing profit being put above the needs of people and planet. But despite what the industry wants us to believe, this is not inevitable.
This online event hosted by Friends of the Earth Scotland and Friends of the Earth Ireland will include stories of how communities across the world are fighting back and winning against data centres, with opportunities to share strategies, lessons and solidarity.
