The Torry community in Aberdeen is urging the Scottish Government to intervene and save their beloved St Fittick’s Park.
Aberdeen Councillors have just approved a planning application to destroy this vital community green space and build a so-called Energy Transition Zone. But because the developers have ignored warnings from environmental experts about flooding risk, there is an opportunity for Government Ministers to ‘call in’ the application for more scrutiny.
This would mean the Scottish Government effectively has the final say. This is a chance to ensure the flood risk is properly assessed and for the dodgy claims of the developers to be thoroughly examined.
This is an important national issue because the treatment of this community is a test case for how we deliver a just transition in Scotland. The community is fighting fiercely against this project which is a corporate land grab by the oil industry - cynically dressed up in transition marketing language.
These ETZ plans have no consent from local people and will take away accessible greenspace from an under-served community that is already burdened with pollution from the oil industry.
Can you support the Torry community campaign and quickly send an email to Scottish Government Ministers urging them to act?
The email contains a brief summary of the arguments that the Friends of St Fittick’s Park have made in a much longer letter to Ministers and the Chief Planner.
