Join us to hear from indigenous leaders from the Amazon about how they protect and govern their land.

We’re delighted to welcome the Wampís Nation to Edinburgh for a very special National Meeting alongside the Forest Peoples Programme.

The Wampís Nation is an indigenous autonomous Government made up of 85 communities located in the north west Amazon. For decades they have fought for the recognition of the rights to their land, territories and resources, and in the face of increasing threats by extractive industries.

This gathering provides an opportunity to hear from two leaders of the Wampís nation, as part of their visit to the UK, to explore land defence in the Amazon, autonomous self-government, the construction of sustainable communities and how international solidarity, in particular around resource justice campaigning, can support these efforts.

We will hear from:

  • Pamuk Teófilo Kukush Pati, the Pamuk or elected president of the Autonomous Territorial Government of the Wampís Nation
  • Tsanim Evaristo Wajai Asamat, the Director of Justice of the Autonomous Territorial Government of the Wampís Nation
  • Tom Younger, Peru Programme Coordinator and Policy Advisor at the Forest Peoples Programme
  • Kim Pratt, Senior Campaigner on Circular Economy and Resource Justice at Friends of the Earth Scotland

By recognising that our hopes for a better future are bound to the Wampís people’s fight for autonomy, we are taking a step towards resource justice and a better future for everyone.

We'd love for you to join us for a drink and snack from 6.30pm, to begin the event at 7pm.
