In pockets across Scotland and globally, an alternative energy future is already being built – in community energy projects, well insulated homes and demands for affordable energy for all.

Join us and some of the groups in Scotland leading on this work for a day of exploring an energy system that works for people and planet, not profit.

When there is so many polluting projects to resist, it can be hard to move beyond this firefighting. But while this is important, we also need to be able to look ahead to the kind of futures that we do want to see, and to build these new systems to step into.

This gathering is all about collective learning about the many answers to the question: ‘what does a future without fossil fuels look like?’

We’ll start off with an overview of how our current destructive energy system works, before exploring a few of the ways that new systems can and are being built to serve people and planet, instead of profits. We’ll explore different ways of pricing energy to eradicate the fuel poverty that is rampant across the UK, and we will look at the ownership of energy and how this could be done differently. We’ll also discuss the huge energy savings that can be made through better building standards and retrofits, and the importance of resource justice – making sure the critical minerals that are needed for renewable technologies are sourced in a sustainable and fair way.

This is a full day event from 11am – 6pm, with delicious free food provided at lunch time from MILK cafe. All food will be fully vegan and gluten free.

Free childcare will also be provided at this event to make it as accessible as possible for all kinds of people. Please indicate on the registration form whether you intend to use this service.

If cost is a barrier to you attending this event, there is a travel fund available. Again, please indicate on the form whether you would like to get your travel costs reimbursed – no questions asked.
